    Exceptional

For the area there are a fee cheaper in price hotels for those on a budget, my advice is don't bother, stay here!!! Well looked after hotel, nice friendly welcoming staff, fantastic location, room wasnt anything amazing but still good for price paid. Shower was quite powerful and piping hot, toilets always clean and breakfast was also of a good quality. A little bargain of a place to stay for what you pay. As I said, if your budgeting, ignore the other cheaper ones in the area on Booked.net. For a few extra quid you can't go wrong with this place. A very pleasant experience!!!

The room was small and seemed very dated but I wouldn't say it's a major negative, I'm a full believer in you get what you pay for!

The staff were very friendly and helpfull, also very usefull for advice about restaurants and where to eat and also avoid! The hotel was spotless clean and though the interior was dated in the rooms the beds were comfortable and the washroom facilities were right next to the room, the shower was always hot and towels were provided. The lounge was spacious and very comfortable also I never heard any noisy guests during my stay this was a pleasant surprise as most seemed to be young clientel. I would definitely stay here again and the location is excellent for the price.

The awful paint colours in the room... pink with brown doors.. very 80's but still it was clean and oudourless!

    Good

Nice breakfast, clean room and bathroom(shared), wifi was accessible at 3rd floor, good location. The rest, well, you get what you pay, so I don't complain.

    Good

It was local for great ormond street hospital

My room was on the third floor and the lift wasn't working at my age this was a struggle.

    Good

One of the receptionists, a small guy with glasses, was very friendly. The showers and toilets were very clean. Very good location.

The rest of the staff wasn't so friendly, not rude but just not friendly. The breakfast was a small joke, if you are bigger then 50kg count on buying something else. Pretty old hotel, needs a restoration.

    Good

The location was the best thing about Ruskin. 5 minutes walk to three subway stations (Holborn, Russel Square, Tottenham Court Road), right in the middle between soho and King's Cross Station, and next door to the British Museum. If you are a tourist in London and don't want to spend much time in transportation this is your place. The price is really low considering its location.

The smallest room I have ever seen. Their double room with a balcony was acceptable, but the single room I booked was as small as a pigeonhole. Plus, it was facing west, so every afternoon it is basked in the sun. The worst thing was that it was an old building and had no air- conditioning. So every evening when I came back to the room it was like a pre-heated oven. After two restless nights I asked for a room in the back of the hotel, facing south, and it was much better--not only cooler but also quieter. So do avoid the west side if you decide to stay at the hotel. But, hey, its price was only ten pounds above the hostel next door, breakfast included. So what can I say.

    Superb

Staff were very helpful and pleasant - the rooms were actually not too bad at all, basic but clean with a sink, no tv. The location and price are the reasons my wife and I chose the Ruskin and we had our one year old son with us. The location is perfect and the price was right. Seriously not bad if you are just looking for somewhere to sleep, much better than we were expecting after reading some of these reviews!

The downstairs lift wasn't working which meant we had to hawl our luggage and pram up and down the stairs.

    Perfect location.

The idea of share bathroom. Lift wasn't working( we were on the 3rd floor). On the third floor we can't access the internet, just on the 1st and 2nd floor. First Hotel that I had to pay before leave. We stayed 2 weeks and we had to pay all on the first 4 days.It should be write when we book at least.

    Guest rating

location excellent, staff pleasant and efficient.

hotel facilities and room fixtures and furniture very very poor - carpets, chairs and wardrobe ready to be put in the next available skip. No tv's in any rooms which is nearly unheard of in this day and age given how cheap a small portable can be purchased for. Stayed in second floor room - window sills rotten and flaking paint, window catches broken / missing from large window - 60 foot drop to concrete patio below - parents with children be warned. Shower was ancient - could switch on but no way of controlling temperature as controls not working - scalding hot water so had to abandon any thoughts of showering. Room rate of circa £50 certainly cheap but could have booked somewhere far nicer on Lastminute.com for extra £30. It would appear usual room rates are in any event circa £80 which for the facilities available is simply appalling. I will look to spend a little more next time and stay somewhere with half decent facilities and furniture which has not been borrowed from a nearby night shelter.

    Fabulous

Convenience. Pleasant staff, nice lounge (with Wimbledon on). Wi Fi for free.

I'm not used to a room without a toilet, but then I chose to go for a cheaper option.

  • 6.6
    Good

The location was excellent; it was literally across the street from the British Museum. The room was adequate for what I paid. Despite the toilet and shower not being inside of the room, I really enjoyed the shower room.

The bed was very uncomfortable. The hotel advertises as free wifi being available in the common space, but it doesn't mention that it closes at 11p.

    Fabulous

It's a nice hotel. The room is quieter ,the breakfast is good especial you have wifi signal in your room maybe not well but acceptable. The toilet is clean.

    Good

It was good location, friendly staff

Shared bathroom wasn't that great and I'd have liked a veggie cooked option at breakfast

    Exceptional

The staff were all friendly, it was very clean, I was visiting the British Museum so was very well located. I was upgraded to double room. The breakfast was excellent. I was expecting a low quality / budget hotel at the price I paid but actually got a very clean, high quality hotel. I would stay there again. I was able to leave luggage until the evening for my return train journey. I was a single female and a bit concerned about the shared bathroom facilities, my concerns were unfounded. It was all very clean and I didn't have to wait / queue for shower or toilet facilities.

    Exceptional

Liked my room with small iron balcony overlooking the back gardens between Montague St. And Bedford place. The staff was very friendly and very helpful when I needed information or directions, and the maids and kitchen/breakfastroom staff were also very friendly ( took photos of them all which I will send them.) Easy place to meet fellow travellers and I had interesting chats with another guest who came from Malaysia. Very nice breakfast, made to your order. The downstairs parlor had a tv, but very few books on one small shelf, most of them in Japanese. More books in English would be nice

It was more expensive than I'd hoped.
